Joseph Anthony Cordier
Born January 13, 1966, Joseph Anthony Cordier became the eighth of Richard and Phyllis White Eyes Cordier’s nine children. He was born in Rosebud and raised in St. Francis, where he attended St. Francis Indian School, then Marty Indian School. 1985 was a big year for Joseph. In that year, he graduated from Marty, enlisted in the US Army, and married Paulette Bordeaux. They would eventually have nine children together. During his time in the Army, he was stationed primarily at Fort Carson in Colorado. After being honorably discharged from the service, Joseph and his family moved to Minnesota, before he decided to move back to Rosebud in 1992. Once there, he began working for Rosebud Law Enforcement Services. He received high praise for his work in law enforcement. He also worked for the BIA Game, Fish, and Parks Department. During his time in Rosebud, he would marry Kateri Douville in December of 2008 and they would divorce several years later. Joseph then married Rose Ashley White Hat, and they had a daughter together. This proud family man and veteran passed away on September 25, 2015 and is interred at the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Veterans Cemetery, also known as Sicangu Akicita Owicahe Tribal Veterans Cemetery.
