Clarence Wolf Guts

The little-known story of the Lakota Code Talkers and their service in WWII utterly intrigued the graphic novelists. While not as well-known as the story of the Navajo Code Talkers, the life story of Clarence Wolf Guts is a fascinating one. From learning Lakota at a time when public use of the language was not encouraged, to using this skill to fill an important need in the American military, Clarence’s talents led to a very unique military experience in the Pacific as a personal code talker for a major general, where he was eventually assigned his own personal bodyguards, demonstrating the value placed on these code talkers. This graphic novel incorporates Clarence’s story and honors the language that played such a role in his life.
